Weekend in Edinburgh, Scotland
One of my weekend trips will be a visit to the lovey city of Edinburgh. I was there in 2004 and loved it, so much so that I have been thinking of applying to the University of Edinburgh for graduate studies. I am very excited to have the chance to revisit the city and to tour the campus. And if that isn’t cool enough, I am even going to rent an empty dorm room rather than staying in a...

Stratford-Upon-Avon? I saw a recent show on the Travel Channel and it looked very interesting, although, maybe a bit touristy?

I'm Going to the Clink
When I’m in London this summer, I will be staying at the Clink Hostel. The building was formerly known as Clerkenwell Court and was moved to this site in 1844, then rebuilt in 1903. An English Heritage building, there are two courtrooms (one a tv lounge, the other an internet lounge) and even prison cells you can rent for the night. Of particular interest, Clerkenwell is where the band...

Planes, Trains and Automobiles
Yesterday I attended my first orientation session for my study abroad program. In addition to meeting my professors and fellow students, we discussed the practicalities of traveling around Europe. We will be taking the Eurostar from London to Paris on July 8, 2010. (Photo above is of the Eurostar train from 2006 trip).
In addition to our weekend in Paris, we will take weekend trips to...

Kensington is The Enchanted Palace
There is a new exhibit at Kensington Palace, once home to many royals including Queen Victoria and Princess Diana. The exhibit, entitled Echanted Palace, tells the story of seven princesses that lived there through “fashion, performance, and dreamlike installations”. You can read more about it by using the link below. I hope I get a chance to check it out while I’m there. ...
Required Reading
This is a list of books I hope to read before I leave. Some are required for the classes I am taking. Others are on the list because they will enrich my experience, whether expanding my knowledge on certain aspects of British history or helping my to decide what sites to visit while in Britain. I am also studying up on the relationship between Mary Stuart and Elizabeth Tudor, as this is the...
Good news
I just found out that I’ve received a scholarship for my study abroad program!
The adventure begins!
Only 111 days until I will leave home to live and study in Nottingham, England!
I’m trading my ordinary life in suburbia for a month studying abroad. I’ll take classes in British history, literature, art and culture, as well as travel around England, Scotland and even a weekend in Paris. I have this thirty day adventure to decide what’s next for me. Graduate school? Living and working in...
